Welcome to Pomo Elementary School!

Dear Pomo Families,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year. I am excited about the coming school year and hope that you all had a great summer. If you are new to Pomo Elementary School, let me extend a welcome to our school from our staff, students, and parents. It is our desire that your year at Pomo Elementary School be a successful learning experience.

In working towards this year being a successful learning experience for your child we are working with our staff on delivering Best First Instruction. We will also continue to implement the Visible Learning philosophy and its related practices which focus on student learning via not only students being responsible for their learning, but for students to understand their learning and growth.

Here at Pomo, we will be making changes to ensure that students are safe and stay healthy, all while providing them with a quality education. We will continue to practice a Multi-Tiered System of support (MTSS). We have been an MTSS school for a few years now and will continue the work to develop our school culture, address student behavior and increase student learning.

Please take a few minutes to read and discuss the handbook as a family. Research supports the fact that children do best in school when their parents and school work together as a team.  I look forward to working with the families at Pomo Elementary School.

About the Principal

April EMy name is April Ellis and I was born and raised here in Lake County. I attended Konocti Unified School District from kindergarten through twelfth grade. I am a proud 1995 graduate of Lower Lake High School. I received my bachelor's and a teaching degree from California State University, Chico. In 2001, I returned home to Konocti Unified School district where I began my teaching career at Pomo Elementary School. While in Konocti, I have taught grades Kindergarten through fifth. In 2014, I began my administrative career at Lower Lake High School as the assistant principal. In 2019, I returned back to Pomo Elementary School. I am proud to be the principal at Pomo Elementary School. It is my honor to serve the students, parents, and staff.
