Carle’ Families and Students,

Happy MLK Day

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday in the United States marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year. King was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement, which protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. The campaign for a federal holiday in King's honor began soon after his assassination in 1968. President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed three years later on January 20, 1986. At first, some states resisted observing the holiday as such, giving it alternative names or combining it with other holidays. It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000.

New Semester

We are now in our second semester of this school year. This grading period ends February 23. It is SO important that students attend school, be on time and complete their work. Our Gold Level reward trip for the last grading period will be to the Taylor Observatory. We are busy planning the Gold Level reward trip for this grading period!

Cozy Friday

This Friday is Cozy Friday! Wear your beanie, scarf or PJ’s and enjoy a free cup of hot cocoa during brunch. You will also have the opportunity to vote for this year’s Prom theme.

Stay Healthy

As winter settles in, colds and flus become more prevalent, making it the perfect time to amp up our health defenses.

Here are some simple acts that offer big protection:

  • Wash Hands Often: A good hand washing routine is your first line of defense. It helps prevent the spread of germs that can lead to those pesky winter colds and flus

  • Avoid Touching Your Face: Hands can be sneaky carriers of germs. By steering clear of face-touching, especially eyes, nose, and mouth, we reduce the chances of those germs finding their way in.

  • Cover Mouth and Nose When You Cough or Sneeze: A simple act like covering up can stop the spread of airborne germs. It's a small gesture that makes a big difference, protecting those around us.

  • Avoid Close Contact with Others: While hugs and handshakes are heartwarming, keeping a safe distance can be germ-warming! Minimize close contact to reduce the risk of germ transmission.

  • Stay Home When You're Sick: This one's crucial. Rest, hydrate, and give yourself the time to recover. Staying home not only helps you heal faster but also prevents the spread of illness to others.

Sincerely,

Tara Bianchi
