4/15/2024 Weekly Principal's Message

Staff members at Burns Valley

A Message From Principal Serpa:

Welcome to a sunny week at Burns Valley. With the nice weather comes daydreams of summer, sleeping in, playing in the water and enjoying time with family and friends. (For staff and students!) It’s easy for us all to get a little distracted when the weather turns warm. Remind your children that we still have 8 weeks left of school. There is still so much that we need to accomplish before it ends. Summer will be here before we know it.

Attendance Rewards:

We are continuing with our monthly attendance challenge. We had 244 students with 95% attendance or better for the month of March! They will receive a coupon for a free hot chocolate at Sister’s Coffeehouse! Our grand prize winners for the Fire tablets / Handheld Game for TK/K are:

TK: Romani (Ms. Wienke)

Kindergarten: Elisa (Ms. Atkinson)

  • 1st: Addison (Ms. Felder)
  • 2nd: Violeta (Ms. Williamson)
  • 3rd: Sophia (Mr. Post)
  • 4th: Daniel (Mr. McElroy)
  • 5th: Armani (Ms. Wertz)
  • 6th: Carlos (Ms. Shepherd)

They will receive their prizes this week. We will continue our attendance challenge for the month of April! Winners will receive a free taco from Gaytan Family Market! Students with 100% each week will also receive 5 Tiger Tickets to spend at the Student Store. Attendance Matters.

Field Trips:

We have some exciting field trips this week. We are continuing with our field trips to the Middletown Art Center. Ms. Felder and Ms. Strauch are there today, April 16th. Tomorrow will be our TK field trip to the Clearlake Police Department and our kindergarteners will be visiting the Fire Department in Clearlake. And next week our 6th graders will be traveling out of county to visit some colleges. Be sure to turn in your permission slips!

Basketball Tournament:

Today starts our basketball tournament! Students will play at recesses starting with 3rd grade. Winners of the tournament will play the staff on Friday! Remember good sportsmanship is just as important as being a good player! Have fun.

Congratulations!:

We have so many amazing staff members at Burns Valley, it is hard to pick who should represent us as Teacher and Classified of the Year. Each year staff nominate and vote on who to recognize. This year we are happy to announce that Ms. Stephan, our 1st grade teacher, is our Teacher of the Year! Here is what some had to say about her. “Her commitment to enhancing the school experience for students, parents, and faculty alike is truly remarkable. Her selflessness, organizational skills, and unwavering support make her not only an exceptional educator but also a cornerstone of the school community. We would also like to recognize our Lead Custodian Troy Dahneke. This is his second time being awarded Classified of the Year! Troy continues to take great pride in our school. He never complains and cares deeply about the safety or our students and staff! Congratulations to both staff members. We are truly lucky to have you both as Tigers!
