4/22/2024 Weekly Principal's Message

A Message From Principal Serpa:

Happy Monday Tiger families! Can you believe we only have 7 weeks left of school!! We have so much to do and lots to learn before we take off for summer vacation.

End-of-Year Attendance:

Spring is here, which can make it tempting to skip school and go play. Instead, now is the time to finish strong. Please be sure your student attends school every day. When students can keep up with classwork, they stay engaged. When school gets hard because they’ve missed lessons, students can get frustrated, which makes them tune out. Being at school every day will allow them to have a great finish to the year-and it will prepare them for next year. Plus, working hard at the end of the year will make summer break that much sweeter!

Standardized Testing:

At the end of every year, students take standardized tests to see what they’ve learned and where gaps remain. We use test results to improve our teaching methods and our academic programs. When students give testing their best effort, we find out how we stack up against other schools-and students find out what they need to work on.

To prepare students for a successful experience, please make sure they get good sleep and a healthy breakfast. Testing at our school starts on May 6th.

Mural:

We will be working with the Middletown Art Center to paint our second mural on our campus! The theme is "A safe place to learn" and will be painted on the side of room 2 in the kindergarten area. Students in grades TK-3 will be participating in the painting. Students will be given smocks to wear, but we advise sending students in clothes you don’t care about getting a little paint on. It will not wash out. Teachers will be notifying families when it’s their turn to paint so you can plan ahead. Sneak peak at a draft.

Parent Visitors:

We love that we have so many parents that want to visit campuses and classrooms! However, all guests are required to have a visitor pass when on campus. To get a visitor pass, bring your state issued valid photo ID to the office. It takes just seconds to get your pass. If you are going to be in a classroom, you are required to arrange this with the teacher ahead of time. If you are in class more than once per week, you are required to complete a Volunteer Packet and get fingerprinted. Please help us keep our students safe!

Colleges:

It’s never too early for your child to visit a college! Whether they are in TK, 6th grade or in between, drive through every college campus you come across on your travels. Our 6th graders will be taking a trip over the mountain to visit Santa Rosa JC and Sonoma State University later this week. Starting the conversation about careers and college now will help your children think about what they want to be when they grow up AND how to get there. Psst...we don't just mean universities! Stop at a trade school as well!

Pick up and Drop off:

We continue to be concerned about the safety of our students, staff and parents during drop off and pick up. If you are one of the families that drive your child to school, we beg you to please be kinder and follow the rules of the road. Do not drop off and pick up in the red zones. Follow the directions of the crossing guard. Do not park your car in the yellow zones or in the middle of the street. Make sure your child is ready when you pull into the yellow zone to let them out so you don’t hold up others. We have over 550 students at this school. We know it gets busy and everyone is in a rush. However, safety is our top priority! We are working with the city and police to come up with solutions.
