4/29/2024 Weekly Principal's Message

Students meeting on the field

A Message From Principal Serpa:

Happy Monday Tiger families! Wow, only 6 weeks left of school. Where has the time gone? Last week our 6th graders went on college visits to Sonoma State University and Santa Rosa Jr College. We thought this year went by quickly, this group will be in college before we know it! All parents are encouraged to start talking about college now regardless of how old your child is. When you see a sign for a college or trade school on your travels, stop in and walk around. Don’t have time? Then just drive through the campus. Talk about what you see and take a photo of your child in front of the school sign. You never know where the conversation will lead. Time goes by so quickly. Let’s make sure they are ready for their future.

TK & Kindergarten Round Up

KUSD has open enrollment for TK and Kindergarten for the 2024-2025 school year. Click the link to view the fliers for information on the documents needed to enroll. The district will also be holding TK/Kindergarten round-up event in May. Click the link for more information on the event:

Standardized Testing

At the end of every year, students take standardized tests to see what they’ve learned and where gaps remain. We use test results to improve our teaching methods and our academic programs. When students give testing their best effort, we find out how we stack up against other schools-and students find out what they need to work on.

To prepare students for a successful experience, please make sure they get good sleep and a healthy breakfast. Testing at our school starts on May 6th.

Students who met or exceeded on any subject last year are invited to attend a walking field trip to Tatonkas on Friday. If your students qualified they will receive a permission slip tomorrow morning.

Healthy Schools, Healthy Students

Along with all Konocti Unified schools, ours is working towards becoming Blue Zones Project Approved. The Blue Zones Project is based on the belief that when we make it easier to choose healthy options, people do! And healthy choices help us feel better and live longer. Becoming Blue Zones Project Approved will include adopting policies, programs, and strategies to promote health and increase student engagement. Data show that healthier students earn higher test scores, have higher attendance rates, and tend to be more resilient and socially connected. We’re in the planning phase now, and you’ll see some changes next year.

Among those changes, will be enforcement of the district nutrition policy. This means sugary snacks and treats will not be allowed on campus. Our district board policy 5030 can be found online and states “...foods and beverages that are available on campus during the school day, such as foods and beverages for classroom parties, school celebrations, and rewards/incentives, comply with nutrition standards.” Within KUSD elementary schools starting next school year, we will not be allowing students to bring any snacks or have class parties on their birthday. At BV our students will be celebrated on their birthday with a trip to the birthday book machine.

We are starting mural painting this week for grades TK-3. Check with your child’s teacher for dates/times of participation. We will provide smocks, but can’t insure they will not get paint on their clothes.
