A Message From Principal Serpa:
Whew, our first week of state testing is behind us for students in grades 3-6! This week we will be reviewing math for next week's CAASPP exams. These tests are important and are used to influence major decisions at our school and in our district. Help your student succeed by making sure they get a good night's sleep, they arrive at school on time and have breakfast. We want them to all do their best. If they miss a day of testing or arrive late, they will be brought into the library to makeup their exam with Ms. Serpa.
Talent Show Auditions:
Can your child sing, play an instrument, dance, twirl a baton, tell jokes, do magic or have some other fun talent they want to share? Burns Valley will hold a Talent Show with our Open House at the end of the month. Students who wish to participate in the Talent Show can audition on Wednesday, May 15th after school in the library. Permission slips were sent home last week. Students wishing to participate, must have a permission slip signed at the time of auditions. Let’s have some fun as we close out the year!
Staff Appreciation:
This week we are celebrating all of our amazing staff members with a variety of activities. We are lucky to have such amazing teachers, secretaries, paraprofessionals, custodians, cafeteria workers and more as part of this terrific Tiger team. We hope you will take a moment to thank members of our staff for a job well done. Their work is not easy, but they are dedicated to making Burns Valley the best learning environment possible for our students.
Drop off and Pick up:
We do our best to keep your student’s safe. We expect those that drive to do the same. If you drive to drop off or pick up your child, please follow the rules of the road and respect our crossing guards. We have asked the Clearlake Police Department to come help us and enforce the laws including issuing tickets if necessary. If you see someone creating an unsafe situation for our students by the way they are driving, please report it immediately to the Clearlake Police Department with the license plate number. It takes each of us working together to create the safest environment possible for our students and families.
6th Graders:
You must have your 7th grade TDaP immunization to start school next year. Start making those doctors appointments now.
Cafeteria:
Breakfast and lunch are to be eaten in the cafeteria only. Students and parents are not to remove food from the cafeteria. There are three reasons for this. One reason is a safety issue. Students walking around eating could choke and an adult may not notice. (yes, this has happened before resulting in 911) The second reason is that we need to make sure this food is being consumed by the students and not members of their family. And lastly, students tend to leave their trash behind when eating outside creating a filthy campus for everyone. So help us all by consuming breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria. Students who eat snack at recess are to do so while sitting at the blacktop benches for the same reasons.
