A Message From Principal Serpa:
Sorry for the late message this week. The end of the school year is quickly approaching and with that comes some of our most hectic times. As we get to the end, students will continue to take a variety of assessments including the CAASPP state exams and STAR exams that measure their growth in math and reading. Encourage your students to keep doing their best. We are not done yet!
Open House & Talent Show:
We have 25 students who auditioned for the Talent Show! I will be working with each of them to get them ready for the show on May 30th. This is also the night of our Open House. We will start with Open House at 4:00 and transition to the Talent Show at 4:30 on the blacktop. We hope to see you all here!
Behaviors:
Whether it’s the warm weather or end of year, student behaviors especially in the upper grades are becoming worrisome. With fights, disrespect towards staff, vaping and other poor decisions, we are genuinely concerned about our students. Students who misbehave may risk participation in the end of year activities such as the Escape Rooms, Slime Run, Field Day and more. Now, we are hearing some students are talking about fighting during the last days of school. Please talk to your students. Violence is not an acceptable way to handle conflict at school, home or in the community. Neither is profanity or use of racial slurs. Remind your children if they hear something, say something. We want to keep all of our Tigers safe and everyone deserves to be respected.
Art Contest
Ms. Williamson is leading our annual Art Show! All classes have been given instructions and permission slips. We will vote on classroom winners and grade level winners. Art will be displayed next week at the Talent Show. I have worked hard with the fairgrounds over the last couple of years to get our art entered into the Lake County Fair. This year they have agreed to display all of our art at the fair in September for free! Only students who turn in the signed permission slip will have their art on display at the fair. We have such talented students, I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
Memorial Day:
There is no school on Monday in honor of Memorial Day. This is a special day in our country and I encourage everyone to take the time to pay respect to those that have given their lives defending our country and its freedoms.
INFORMATIONAL MEETING REGARDING SCHOOL BOUNDARY LINE ADJUSTMENTS FOR 2024-25
According to the data, it seems clear that for the next several years, we’ll see steady, rapid growth in our student population. Enrollment is projected to peak in 2027-28 and begin to decrease again while remaining above current levels through at least 2031.
The first step to managing this growth is to distribute our student population more evenly among our schools, which means adjusting the boundary lines. This will not affect very many families, but it will affect some (see the new boundary map below). If you cannot attend but have questions or concerns, reach out to the district office.
The new boundaries primarily affect three areas of Clearlake, shifting territory out of the Pomo Elementary boundary and into the Lower Lake Elementary boundary. The Burns Valley Elementary boundary will absorb an area that was formerly assigned to Pomo, while it also loses an area that will become assigned to Lower Lake. This results in a net loss of current residents for Burns Valley that will be balanced by new students coming from Konocti Gardens, a new housing development expected to generate the highest number of new students. An additional area will transfer directly from Pomo to Lower Lake.
This means that starting next year, all students enrolling at Konocti Unified will be assigned to a school based on new school boundaries. Parents can always apply for interdistrict transfers, and we’ll do our best to work with families as space allows. If you are affected by the boundary change and you want your child to stay in their current school (or you want their sibling to go to the same school), you can complete an interdistrict transfer request.
After School Program:
It’s time to start thinking about next year’s after school program. The ASP runs until 6:00 daily. They do all sorts of fun activities as well as provide homework support. Students must be pre registered to attend. If you would like your child to attend the program please use this link to register. You must sign up every year. The program fills up quickly. Spots are filed on a first come basis. If you have any questions about the program please reach out to Lora Anderson ext. 2585
