1/8/2024 Weekly Principal's Message

Brierly

A Message From Principal Serpa:

Welcome back Tigers! We hope you all had a wonderful winter break. With a new year comes resolutions and hopes for the year ahead. My hope for our Tigers is that we finish the second half of the school year strong; academically, emotionally and physically. We have so much to accomplish and we need your help getting there. We will do our best to provide rigorous academics and support student learning so that all students progress towards grade level expectations by the end of the year. We have hired a second Academic Intervention Assistant to work with Ms. Barbara to provide more interventions to students needing social/emotional supports. And lastly, we will continue to bring more activities and resources to our school so students have options for physical activities during non academic times. Here’s to 2024. May it be our best year yet!

Welcome Mr. Brierly:

We would like to officially welcome our newest 6th grade teacher, Mr. Brierly! With the addition of a 6th grade teacher, we will be working to reconfigure our classes. Letters will be sent home with students later this week explaining the changes and new schedules. Changes will not take place until next week. Welcome to the Tiger family Mr. Brierly!

Winter Break Reading Log:

All students should have brought home a Winter Break Reading Log. Students were asked to read for at least 20 minutes per day and record it on their log. If they bring it back on Tuesday morning, they will receive a free book! Readers are leaders.

Lexile & Quantile Awards:

This week we are recognizing students who made at least 50 points of growth towards their Lexile and Quantile goals for the 1st trimester. Students in grades 1-6 are expected to make a minimum of 50 points of growth each trimester. Students who met their goal will receive a certificate and 15 Tiger Tickets to use in our student store. This is just one measurement that we are using to track students' ability to read and perform math at grade level. We hope that twice as many students will qualify next trimester!

Learning Online during break:

In the newsletter before break, we provided educational resources for you to use with your students during the break. Some parents reached out saying they didn’t know their child's login and Ms. Serpa was able to get those to them. If you don’t have your student’s login to their school account, please reach out to the teacher or Ms. Star in the library. We want to make sure everyone has the ability to access great extra resources to help support students learning.
