A Message From Principal Serpa:
Happy Tuesday Burns Valley Tiger Families! We hope you have had a great start to the new year. Did you know today marks the 90th day of school! That means we are half way through the year. It’s going by so fast, isn’t it? This second half of the year becomes very busy as we progress towards summer. There will be two more report cards, open house, talent show, state testing, field trips, art show, spirit weeks, field day and so much more. But with all of this, comes the most important thing. Learning! So many of our students are below grade level in reading and/or math. We all have to work hard to get them up to grade level so they are ready for the next year! We hope you will continue to communicate to your children the importance of doing their best and attending school everyday. Encourage them to read to you or read to them if they haven’t mastered it yet. Read anything and everything! Yes, even the back of the cereal box. Set up math problems in everyday life, like at the grocery store or when getting gas. If you need ideas, reach out to your child’s teacher. Let’s all work together to help them finish the year strong.
Martin Luther King Jr:
Yesterday school was closed in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.. This is more than just a day off of school. It’s a day to remember and learn about all that he accomplished and his dream for the world. MLK was a civil rights activist in the 1950s and ‘60s who fought courageously against systemic racism in America. He urged people to action by inspiring hope and focusing on the principles of justice, peace, and inclusivity. We remember his legacy each year on the holiday dedicated to his work and to these important ideals. Many classes are talking about Martin Luther King Jr. Be sure to ask them what they have learned!
Welcome New Paras:
We would like to officially welcome our newest paras, Ms. Jill. She will be working with Ms. Johnson and Mr. Bobby in our SDC class.
Ms. Stevie will be working with the after school program.
Welcome both of of you to the Tiger family!
Intersession:
Our second Intersession of the year will take place on February 12-16th. The focus will be on English Language Arts. Students who are struggling readers will be invited. Intersession is by invite only. If you believe your child could benefit from attending, please reach out to the teacher. They will make the recommendations. Not all grades will be offered. Offerings depend on staff availability. Please do not register your child if they cannot attend the entire week. This is intensive intervention held over 5 days. There is no time to catch students up when they miss a day or leave early.
