A Message From Principal Serpa:
Welcome back Tiger families! This week we are celebrating Kindness Week. We will have dress up days and activities. This week serves as a reminder for us to always choose kindness, not just for a day or a week, but always. Take some time to talk to your child about what they’ve learned and ways to be kind. What a wonderful world it will be when we all choose kindness first!
Here are our kindness dress up days for the week:
Tuesday: Camo Day - We don’t hide from kindness
Wednesday: Sports/Workout clothes - We workout out problems with kindness
Thursday: Tie-Dye/Hippie Day - Peach, Love and Kindness
Friday: School Spirit Day/ Blue & Gold - Share the Spirit of Kindness
County Attendance Challenge:
The Lake County Office of Education is holding an attendance challenge that lasts through May 3rd. There are two challenges. https://www.lakecoe.org/Attendance
- Students with 100% attendance for the week will be entered into a drawing weekly.
- Students with 95% attendance for the month will be entered into a different drawing each month.
Burns Valley will also recognize ALL students who qualify each week and will hold its own monthly drawing. Students must be present all day. Arriving late, leaving early or being absent for any portion of the day will count against them.
Wow, 301 students earned a pack of Tiger Tickets for their perfect attendance the week before Intersession!! Hurray!
Attendance is not just about earning rewards. Missing school means missing out. With so many of our students scoring below grade level in both math and reading, we need them here everyday to get the most out of their education.
February is Black History Month:
February is Black History Month. This is a time to reflect on the contributions of African Americans to our nation now and throughout history. Black culture in America has had worldwide impacts, from music, literature, and science to civil rights and leadership. By studying history, we can learn from the choices, failures, and accomplishments of those who came before us, and we can build a more inclusive, equitable, and vibrant future.
