Students have been sent home from Lower Lake High School, Lower Lake Elementary School, and Carle School. Students waiting to be picked up by parents are safe at Burns Valley Elementary. School buses are en route taking students home. If they are unable to complete their routes, students will be dropped off at Burns Valley Elementary. We have no electricity and phones are down. We will provide updates here and on our website.
Dear Konocti Parents, Staff, and Community:
We are excited to welcome our students and staff back to school on August 16 for in-person learning on all of our campuses.
During the pandemic last year, we learned how to use COVID-19 safety protocols to keep our students and staff as safe as possible. With COVID transmission rates on the rise here in Lake County, we’ll use our experience to keep everyone safe again this year.
As we have throughout the pandemic, we are working closely with Lake County Public Health and our interim public health officer, Dr. Charlie Evans, as they monitor the situation. Transmission rates are measured based on case rate as well as the percentage of people vaccinated locally. There are four levels of risk: minimal, moderate, substantial, widespread. Currently, Lake County is in the widespread level. As of early August 2021, our case rate is similar to that of January 2021.
Because vaccines are now widely available, this year’s safety protocols are not as strict as they were last year. Masks will be required in the classroom, but we will be allowed to bring all students back into the classroom at the same time. We will adjust safety protocols based on recommendations from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) and Lake County Public Health. You can find CDPH recommendations at www.cde.ca.gov/ls/he/hn/coronavirus.asp.
As school begins, the following protective measures will be in place:
1. Masking requirements for staff and students will be based on transmission risk level:
2. Visitors are not allowed on school campuses without prior approval from site administration.
3. We encourage frequent handwashing and will sanitize campuses regularly
4. We require daily health screening for students and staff
5. We strongly encourage students and staff who feel ill to stay home.
6. To keep our extracurricular events available for our students, we ask everyone to wear masks when attending large group events such as sporting events.
7. We will offer no-cost COVID surveillance testing every other week for staff and for students with parent permission.
We look forward to reconnecting with our staff and students, and we appreciate our partnership with parents and community members. Together, we continue to get better at getting better!
Your student’s school will provide additional information in the coming days and weeks. As we return to school, please keep students home if they are ill. By working together, wearing masks, and following our safety guidelines, we can all support a safe return to in-person instruction.
Thank you for your support. Stay well!

RE: New State Legislation
Dear Parents:
State Assembly Bill (AB) 104 provides options for students and parents/guardians to address learning recovery needs. Each area of the new law is described below.
Student Retention for 2021-2022
Parents/guardians of students enrolled in kindergarten through 11th grade during the 2020-21 school year who received deficient grades for at least one-half of the coursework in 2020-21 may provide a written request to the school for a meeting to discuss student retention for the 2021-22 school year.
Staff will meet with the parent/guardian and student to discuss learning recovery options, research regarding retention, and data regarding student progress. The District has the final decision. If you are interested in a discussion regarding retention, please contact your child’s school.
Opportunity to Change Grades to Pass No/Pass
Students who were enrolled in high school during the 2020-21 school year may apply to have one or more letter grades replaced with a Pass/No Pass Grade.
Click here for the application developed by the California Department of Education. Students have 15 days to request the change. The application must be submitted to the High School office no later than August 20, 2021.
The California State University system must accept Pass/No Pass Grades without prejudice for an applicant who had enrolled in a high school in the state during any school year from 2020-21 to 2023-24. Some higher education institutions, including those from other states, may not accept Pass/No Pass Grades. For a list of institutions accepting Pass/No Pass grading please visit https://www.cde.ca.gov/ci/gs/ps/ab104surveyresults.asp
Graduation Requirements
Students enrolled in their 3rd or 4th year of high school during the 2020-21 school year and who are not on track to graduate in four years, will be provided the opportunity to complete the state graduation requirements to graduate. Options can include, but are not limited to, a fifth year of instruction or credit recovery. We are in the process of identifying eligible students and will provide more information as it becomes available. Please contact your high school principal if you have questions.
Thank you,
