“Red Scarf Girl” Author Ji-li Jiang visits KEC and LLES

fote03f-1

Author Ji-li Jiang, whose highly acclaimed memoir Red Scarf Girl was read by 7th grade students at the Konocti Education Center and Lower Lake Elementary this year, visited both schools for a special presentation on her life during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. Students were enthralled with her true story of resiliency in a very difficult time period, and were so excited for the opportunity to meet the author, ask questions, and share stories in person. Students at KEC presented her with a handmade book filled with favorite quotes and scenes from their reading experience. On the back of her page, KEC student Jenna White wrote, “You are amazing and your book changed my opinion on books!” Teachers Robin Fogel-Shrive and John MIller are very grateful to their school sites and the district for the support which created such a rich experience for students and their connection to reading.
