Pertussis (Whooping Cough)

California is currently on pace to experience the worst outbreak of pertussis (whooping cough) in 50 years. This disease is highly contagious and can be fatal to infants. Adults and teens need booster shots as immunity from prior vaccination or natural disease fades over time. Parents, grandparents, health care workers and anyone who works with pregnant or post-partum women, or cares for, infants or young children should be immunized. Learn about pertussis vaccines and about what to do if you suspect pertussis disease.
