Cold and flu season is upon us and the health of our students, staff and community is of utmost importance. The California Department of Public Health reports that influenza (also known as the flu) activity levels have increased over the past several weeks, including here in Lake County.
The 2019-2020 flu season has been complicated by recent reports of a novel coronavirus originating in Wuhan, China, now named Coronavirus COVID-19. Although there have been reported cases of novel coronavirus globally, to date, there have been no reported coronavirus cases in Lake County. According to Dr. Pace, Lake County Public Health Officer, an outbreak of this virus is still considered low-risk in our community.
We are monitoring the situation and working with state and local health officials, who will provide updated information about the diagnosis and management of cases of COVID-19, as applicable. Up to date information from the CDC can be found at: cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov .
